Final Project Part 1

Latin literature is often characterized with descriptive word choices, inviting pictures and most of all, beautiful tales of family, friendship and life. Latin Literature encompasses an enormous group of cultures, languages and people. Although this group is enormous, there are several overriding characteristics that can be found throughout. There were several common bonds shared by the three books that I focused on for this project. All three books talked about the importance of friendship and a support system. I found this to be very interesting because it affectively and positively portrays the Latin lifestyle and belief in the “familia.” Another common bond was that of friendship and its benefits. In the three stories, the characters are able to surpass the obstacles placed in front of them as a result of having a strong and everlasting support system. Lastly, the books all had a moral message that it was aimed towards. These stories reminded the reader of the importance of seizing the day and being appreciative of their surroundings and upbringings. I chose to focus on this group because I think the representations found are very interesting and polemic. This project has allowed me to see the beauty that lies in Latin literature and I believe that all three books demonstrate an effective and realistic portrayal of Latin culture. One limitation found in Latin books may be the style of writing that is lost when changed from Spanish to English.
