A Spoon for Every Bite
Author: Joe Hayes
A Spoon for Every Bite provides the reader with a captivating and magical tale about the differences between friendship and material possessions. When a poor, but clever couple decides to make their wealthy and overbearing neighbor the Godfather of their child, their lives take a surprising turn. After inviting their neighbor over to eat with their new eating utensils, they realize his true character of constantly needing wealth and the affirmation that wealth brings to him. The poor couple tells the wealthy neighbor that they know a man that had a different spoon for every bite of food that he took. As a result of this encounter, the wealthy neighbor feels inadequate because his limited wealth would not allow him to use a new utensil for every bite. The wealthy neighbor is determined to do anything to prove his wealth and worth to his poor neighbors. Ultimately, the wealthy neighbor is taught to appreciate what you have and to not judge others based on what they have, when he realizes that with all of his utensils he was no happier than a man who had none. This enchanting tale incorporates authentic Spanish and English dialogue and provides the reader with an insider’s perspective of a classic Hispanic folktale, filled with vibrant illustrations and colloquial Spanish dialogue.
